  • Food Truck Invasion 4th Fridays of the Month – Miami Street Food Court – Friday, October 24, 2014

Hey. So it’s almost that time of the month. You know, that time where you visit Tropical Park in Westchester and check out the food trucks brought to you by the almighty Food Truck Invasion crew. You’re going to come hungry and in the mood to dance a little, so you’ll fit right in. Speaking of dancing a little, maybe DJ Juan Luv of Pincha Discos 305 and I just might get you doing that. We’re chock-full of musical surprises and even non-surprises (the songs you know and love). All in all, it’s not a bad place to be tomorrow night, so stop on by. Feel free to say hello!

  • Wheelin’ Dealin’ Street Food Festival – Saturday, October 18, 2014 [EVENT SUMMARY]

I am quite happy to be DJing this event alongside the talented DJ Juan Luv. I’m also within walking distance of 20 food trucks that are handpicked by the one and only Burger Beast. The key to keeping the attendees of this event is to cater to their diverse musical taste. Many primarily like Latin music, and many like English Top 40 music as well as whatever else is popular, so we were happy to cater to this by playing a little bit of everything throughout the night. It was nice to see folks dancing and singing along to the music. Not that they didn’t before… but they did so even more this time around. It taught me that one cannot be selfish as a DJ that plays music in a public setting. Everybody has the right to listen to whatever music pleases their ear. Just like everybody has the right to eat from whatever food truck they are craving at the moment. The night went very well and it will return on Saturday November 15, 2014 with a nice Thanksgiving theme!

  • Croquetapalooza 2014 – Sunday, October, 12, 2014 [REVIEW]

My name is Hank and I’m confessing right now that I’ve had a lifelong love affair with the croqueta (croquette). It began when I was baby and I would snatch them from my parents when they weren’t looking and stuff them down quickly. Of course, they were often accompanied by pastelitos, but the point is I always went for the croqueta first.

As I grew older and began to expand my food horizons, I made it a mission to try as many different croquetas as I possibly could at the restaurants around Miami. Well, I think I met my match yesterday at Burger Beast‘s Croquetapalooza 2014 event. There were more there than I can handle! It was like a Croqueta Paradise for me. I walked into Magic City Casino at noon with an open mind and just had at it. But I knew I clearly had to pace myself or I just wasn’t going to be able to try them all.

My favorite dish of all was Ms. Cheezious‘ Croqueta Monsieur. Picture this: A Catalina ham croqueta, tavern ham, bechemel and swiss on Sourdough. I mean just reading it over and over again makes me salivate. Well, imagine biting into this. It was so good that the Ms. Cheezious food truck outside of Magic City Casino had to continue pumping them out from noon until about 2:30 PM because the people of Croquetapalooza just could not get enough! A tray full of them would be set down and within 5 minutes, they would all be gone. It’s as if a radar went off the minute the tray hit the table. But I will continue my review.

My favorite croqueta was the guava and cheese croqueta from Latin American Bakery and Cafe. It was HEAVENLY! I was told that it’s been in development for over a year now. I sure as heck hope this croqueta sees the light of day because I will have my fix as often as I can. I wanted to be fair and try one from each participant, so I did. They were all delicious, but the guava and cheese croqueta was the one that really blew my mind.

On the sweet side, I was very impressed with HipPOPs‘ Cafe Con Leche pop and El Rey De Las Fritas‘ Leche Malteada and Batido de Mamey. There were tons of delicious looking flans available to try, but I am honestly not a flan person, so I didn’t get around to trying any.

All in all, the ambience was delightful, the food was top-notch, the music was on point (I wouldn’t expect less from the Pincha Discos 305 crew) and the event was a complete success. I am definitely bringing my friends and family next year.

Congratulations are in order to Fireman Derek for winning Best Flan and to Barley and Swine for winning Best Croqueta. They are also in order to Mr. Burger Beast!

  • Food Truck Invasion Friday Night Food Trucks – Friday, October 3, 2014 [EVENT SUMMARY]

So it was a damp and crabby (literally) night over at Palmetto Bay, but there were still quite a few folks who stuck around for the food trucks and the movie projected on the amazing big screen provided by Partyflix. The featured film was none other than the hilarious Hotel Transylvania starring Adam Sandler and his usual cast of funnies. DJ Juan Luv of Pincha Discos 305 also handed out some promotional coloring material given to us to distribute to the children at the event for the 2015 movie Hotel Transylvania 2.

Rain or shine, Food Truck Invasion knows how to run quality events that are fun for people of all ages and manages to round up the finest food trucks in town. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to snap more pictures (including those of the trucks themselves) because of the potency and consistency of the rain, but there is always next month! Mark your calendars for Friday, November 7at 5:30pm – 10:00pm for the next edition!

  • Food Truck Invasion 4th Fridays of the Month – Friday, August 22, 2014 [EVENT SUMMARY]

The Food Truck Invasion crew rallies up food trucks serving delicious food at Tropical Park every 4th Friday of the month, and I usually go and hang out with my homies Juan Luv and Christian Martinez aka Pinchadiscos 305 because they provide the beats for the monthly event.

I snapped a few pictures and meant to snap more but my camera battery gave out on me before I could. And yeah, I threw down an hour-long set (I appear in the pictures). Check ’em out below!

But the coolest thing of all was this quick video clip I captured of Juan playing a classic vinyl that’s hard to dislike.

Stay tuned for Hi-Fi Miami and for more Food Truck Invasion events!

  • Cooking Demonstration with Ms. Cheezious – Saturday, August 2, 2014 [REVIEW]

The truth is, I arrived fashionably late to the scheduled culinary demo on quick and easy recipes from South Florida that Ms. Cheezious owner Brian Mullins provided at Macy’s Kitchen in Dadeland Mall.

As many of you know, Ms. Cheezious® has been voted Best Food Truck in Miami many, many times because well, they’re the experts in rolling out your favorite comfort food – grilled cheese sandwiches, tomato soup, chili, and fries. Who the heck can say no to that?!

    But I digress.

Check out some photos from the event and a short video clip of Brian talking to the audience. And do yourself a favor and try their food if you ever come across their truck. You won’t regret it.
